Co-founded and chaired by George Abie Williams, a 30-year financial advisor who serves as Senior Vice President Investments at Stifel Nicolaus, the Radford High School Foundation in Virginia maintains more than 20 funds. With assets totaling in excess of $1.4 million in 2011, according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, the organization provides annual scholarships and cash grants to support Radford City Schools. On George Abie Williams’ watch as chairman, in 2005, the foundation played a key role in the construction of a new baseball facility for Radford High School and area youth leagues.
In addition, the Radford High School Foundation spearheaded fundraising for the James P. King Center at Radford High School, a $1.2 million project, in 1999. Recently, the charitable organization awarded Radford City Schools $13,473. Overall, the foundation has bestowed nearly $400,000 in scholarships and classroom grants since its establishment in 1986, including $32,623 in fiscal 2012.
