Among the grants awarded were those that funded innovative classroom projects to facilitate better learning. Teachers from the city schools of Radford were allowed to submit single applications in regard to their ideas for the classroom projects. The winning grants, which outlined projects in areas ranging from English and reading to health and wellness, were chosen by the RHS Foundation’s grants review committee.
Headed by its chairman, George “Abie” Williams, the Radford High School (RHS) Foundation awarded the city schools in Radford, Virginia, cash grants amounting to over $13,000 in the year 2012 as part of the foundation’s annual Fall Cash and Awards program. In total, the RHS Foundation has awarded close to $400,000 in educational scholarship and grants since its founding in 1986. George “Abie” Williams expressed his excitement for the 2012 program, stating that the foundation’s efforts were inspired by its motto: “The future is purchased by the present.”
