Radford High School Foundation, Inc. Renews Municipal Baseball Field Lease

George A. “Abie” Williams, Jr., Chairman of the Radford High School Foundation, Inc. announced the foundation has renewed a lease agreement with the City of Radford for the Municipal Baseball Field.  The foundation originally leased a vacant 5.8 acre site from the city near the Radford Recreation Center in July 2004 for the purpose of constructing a new baseball facility on a former landfill site.  The RHS Foundation completed phase I of the $600,000 project in time for the inaugural 2007 spring season.  The field is designed to major league dimensions, complete with dugouts, restrooms, spectator seating platform, and field irrigation system, and digital scoreboard.  The facility is considered to be one of the finest high school fields in the state.

The facility serves as the home field for the Radford High School Bobcat Varsity and JV teams, as well as local youth league teams.  Radford Municipal Baseball Field has been host to college club baseball, serving Radford University, Virginia Tech and New River Community College.  In addition, the field has been chosen to host showcase tournaments, attracting teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and many more.  The Radford Municipal Baseball Field has been a great asset in helping to bring tourism funds to the Radford and the New River Valley for weekend showcase events.  Hotels, restaurants and retail businesses are the beneficiaries of the travel dollars spent by visiting teams and families who patronize local establishments.

During the current lease term thru December 2015, The Radford High School Foundation, under Williams leadership, plans to continue raising funds for the installation of a $225,000 lighting system for the Municipal Baseball Field.
